SHEQ / Health & Safety Officer

A SHEQ or Health & Safety Officer keeps people safe and the business compliant. On a manufacturing, logistics or industrial site they manage safety, health, environmental and quality systems, run inspections and investigations, and make sure the company meets the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its ISO standards.

What the role involves

• Risk assessments, safe work procedures and legal appointments under the OHS Act
• Incident investigation, root-cause analysis and corrective actions
• Site inspections, internal audits and preparing for client and ISO audits (ISO 45001, 14001, 9001)
• Safety training, inductions, toolbox talks and safety committees
• Safety statistics and reports for management

What makes a strong candidate

We look for SAMTRAC or an equivalent SHEQ qualification (a National Diploma or degree in Safety Management is an advantage), practical site experience, incident-investigation skills, ISO audit exposure, and the confidence to challenge unsafe behaviour at every level. SACPCMP registration is required for some construction roles.

Red flags we screen for

• Paperwork experience only, little time on site
• No direct involvement in incident investigations
• Qualifications that cannot be verified
