A strong senior engineer is not automatically an engineering leader. We assess the scale of engineering functions led, capital and asset responsibility, technical governance and statutory accountability (such as GCC or Pr Eng), team building, and the ability to influence executives and boards.
Technical Director Salary Benchmarks
Our 2026 South African Engineering Salary Guide puts experienced Technical Directors at roughly R130k–R180k per month CTC and Heads of Engineering at R125k–R175k, with senior leaders at R175k–R250k+.
