Credit Controller

A Credit Controller protects a business’s cash flow. In a manufacturing or distribution company they manage customer accounts, credit applications and limits, and collections, so that what is sold is actually paid for on time.

What the role involves

• Assessing credit applications and recommending credit limits
• Daily collections calls and emails, and payment arrangements
• Age analysis, allocations, queries and credit notes
• Placing accounts on hold and handing over to attorneys when needed
• Working with sales on customer disputes

What makes a strong candidate

We look for business-to-business collections experience, confidence on the phone, accuracy on an ERP or accounting system, and the persistence to follow up without damaging the customer relationship. A relevant certificate or diploma is an advantage; results matter more.

Red flags we screen for

• Only consumer or call-centre collections, no B2B accounts
• Cannot describe the size of the debtors book they managed
• No evidence of reducing overdue debt
