What This Role Covers
Depending on the role, Civil Engineers may be responsible for:
- Civil design and drawings
- Site supervision and resident engineering
- Water, wastewater, roads and bulk infrastructure
- Contract administration (for example NEC or FIDIC)
- Quality, safety and client liaison on site
- Tendering, estimating and cost control
What We Assess
We assess consulting versus contracting experience, the size and type of projects delivered, design software and contract forms used, site responsibility, and professional registration with ECSA (Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng) where the role requires sign-off.
Civil Engineer Salary Benchmarks
Our 2026 South African Engineering Salary Guide puts experienced Civil Engineers at roughly R48k–R70k per month CTC and senior Civil Engineers at R70k–R110k+. Resident engineers and specialists in water or geotechnical engineering often earn more.
