Overview
The organisation is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) to provide high-level financial oversight, reporting, compliance and financial management support. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information, strengthening financial controls, overseeing statutory and tax compliance, producing meaningful management information and supporting management with financial analysis and business decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Management Accounts
- Prepare and review monthly management accounts and financial reports.
- Ensure the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of financial information.
- Review bank, customer, supplier and stock reconciliations.
- Maintain oversight of the fixed asset register.
- Analyse financial performance, variances, margins and profitability.
- Prepare financial information and reports for management decision-making.
- Ensure appropriate month-end and year-end financial close processes.
Financial Control & Governance
- Maintain and strengthen internal financial controls.
- Identify financial and operational risks and recommend corrective action.
- Ensure accounting policies and procedures are appropriately implemented.
- Maintain high standards of financial governance, accuracy and confidentiality.
- Ensure accounting practices comply with applicable professional standards and ethics.
Tax & Statutory Compliance
- Oversee and/or prepare statutory returns, including VAT, PAYE and UIF.
- Ensure statutory submissions and payments are completed accurately and within required deadlines.
- Apply appropriate VAT treatment, including zero-rated and exempt transactions.
- Support provisional tax calculations and other applicable taxation requirements.
- Apply knowledge of customs VAT methods, bad and doubtful debts, deferred tax and relevant tax rates.
- Liaise with auditors, SARS and other relevant external stakeholders where required.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Analysis
- Assist with annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor actual performance against budgets and forecasts.
- Analyse financial trends and provide commercially meaningful recommendations.
- Monitor cash flow and working capital.
- Evaluate key financial ratios including profitability, liquidity, debtor and creditor turnover, stock turnover, debt-to-equity, return on investment and fixed asset turnover.
Payroll & Accounting Operations
- Provide appropriate financial oversight of payroll processing.
- Review payroll-related calculations, fringe benefits and allowances where required.
- Ensure appropriate accounting treatment of payroll transactions.
- Support and guide junior accounting employees on accounting standards, processes and technical queries.
Working Capital & Commercial Finance
- Monitor debtors, creditors, inventory and working-capital performance.
- Identify opportunities to improve cash flow, financial efficiency and profitability.
- Analyse customer and supplier accounts and resolve material discrepancies.
- Support management in evaluating commercial and financial decisions.
Audit
- Coordinate financial information required for external audit.
- Prepare appropriate schedules and supporting documentation.
- Liaise with external auditors and address audit queries.
- Assist management with implementing audit recommendations.
Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified Chartered Accountant – CA(SA).
- Current or eligible registration with SAICA.
- Completed SAICA training contract/articles.
- Relevant Bachelor’s degree and postgraduate accounting qualification.
- Strong knowledge of South African accounting, taxation and statutory requirements.
- Strong financial reporting and management accounting experience.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Ideally 3–5+ years’ post-articles experience; an exceptional newly qualified CA(SA) may also be considered.
- Commercial/industry experience would be highly advantageous.
- Experience within automotive, fuel, logistics, transport, distribution, manufacturing or a similarly operational environment would be advantageous.
- Valid driver’s licence.
Systems & Technical Knowledge
- Experience with accounting/ERP systems such as Xero, Sage/Pastel or similar.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and general MS Office capability.
- Experience with SARS eFiling and EasyFile advantageous.
- Sound understanding of VAT, taxation, payroll-related accounting, fixed assets, inventory and financial ratios.
