Executive Recruitment: Hiring for the Next Five Years, Not the Last Five

EMPLOYER INSIGHTS · August 9, 2026

Executive Search | Leadership

Senior appointments can shape an organisation for years.

When recruiting an executive, past performance matters—but so does the organisation’s future direction.

The executive who was ideal for yesterday’s business may not necessarily be the leader required for tomorrow’s.

Boards and leadership teams should consider where the organisation will be in three to five years, what transformation is expected, which capabilities are missing from the existing leadership team, and whether the position requires growth, restructuring, operational improvement or stability.

Executive search should therefore begin with the organisation’s future objectives—not simply the incumbent’s previous job description.
