Draughtsman / Detailer – Johannesburg
Salary: R240 000 to R380 000 per annum
Job specification
- Reports to Drawing Office Manager / Technical Manager, working within a small team of draughtsmen, and coordinating closely with estimating, the factory and site teams. Key responsibilities
- Shop & fabrication drawings — produce detailed drawings from architects’ AutoCAD/Revit drawings: panels, subgrids and brackets, louvres, copings, flashings, canopies and related metalwork.
- Material take-offs & works orders — generate accurate quantity take-offs, material requisitions and works orders for the factory.
- Approvals & revisions — submit drawings for approval and manage the revision cycle (Rev 1/2/3…) cleanly and to deadline.
- Coordination & accuracy — reconcile drawings with site measurements and estimating inputs so that works orders match what is built, reducing re-measures and rework.
- Standards — work to detailing standards and the company’s rulebook – help keep them current.
- Modernisation (developing) — take part in the drawing office’s adoption of parametric templating and automated take-offs as these are introduced.
Requirements:
- A diploma or degree in drafting, architectural technology, mechanical/structural drafting, or equivalent practical experience.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (Revit or other 3D/BIM experience is a strong advantage).
- Experience detailing for facade, cladding, aluminium/sheet-metal, curtain walling or structural steel — or a strong aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Strong accuracy and attention to detail; able to read architectural and structural drawings and specifications.
- Able to manage revisions and meet deadlines under production pressure, and to work as part of a team. Advantageous
- Familiarity with aluminium extrusion and sheet-metal fabrication processes.
- Exposure to take-off / estimating data and works-order systems.
- Interest in Building Information Modelling (BIM), parametric design and automation
