Role Overview
We are seeking a practical and analytical Continuous Improvement Engineer to identify and implement opportunities that improve operational efficiency, quality, productivity and cost performance.
The successful candidate will work closely with production, engineering, maintenance, quality and supply chain teams to review current processes, identify areas for improvement and deliver sustainable solutions.
This role would suit an engineer who enjoys solving operational problems, working with data and collaborating with employees at all levels of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Process Improvement
- Review manufacturing and operational processes to identify inefficiencies, waste and improvement opportunities.
- Develop and implement practical solutions to improve productivity, quality, safety and cost performance.
- Support process optimisation, workflow improvement and standardisation initiatives.
- Analyse production data, downtime, defects and other performance trends.
- Assist with the introduction of new processes, equipment and working methods.
- Ensure that improvements are properly documented, implemented and monitored.
Continuous Improvement Projects
- Lead or support continuous improvement projects from initial assessment through to implementation.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, Six Sigma and other improvement principles where appropriate.
- Facilitate improvement workshops and problem-solving sessions.
- Develop clear project plans, timelines and performance measures.
- Track project results and report on savings, productivity improvements and operational benefits.
- Ensure that completed projects deliver sustainable improvements.
Problem-Solving and Root-Cause Analysis
- Investigate production, quality and process-related problems.
- Conduct root-cause analysis and recommend suitable corrective actions.
- Work with relevant departments to prevent problems from recurring.
- Use structured problem-solving tools such as 5 Whys, Fishbone Analysis, Pareto Analysis and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis.
- Monitor corrective actions to ensure they are completed and effective.
Performance Monitoring
- Support the development and monitoring of operational key performance indicators.
- Analyse performance data and identify trends requiring attention.
- Prepare reports and presentations on continuous improvement activities.
- Measure the operational and financial impact of improvement initiatives.
- Assist management teams in making informed, data-driven decisions.
Collaboration and Employee Engagement
- Work closely with production, maintenance, quality, engineering and supply chain teams.
- Encourage employee participation in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide guidance and training on improvement tools, standard operating procedures and problem-solving methods.
- Support a workplace culture focused on efficiency, quality and continuous learning.
- Communicate project progress and outcomes clearly to relevant stakeholders.
Standards and Documentation
- Develop and update standard operating procedures, work instructions and process documentation.
- Support workplace organisation and 5S activities.
- Assist with maintaining quality, safety and operational standards.
- Ensure that process changes comply with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
Minimum Requirements
- Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related field.
- Three to five years’ experience in continuous improvement, process engineering, industrial engineering or manufacturing operations.
- Experience working in a production, manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Practical knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
- Experience analysing operational and production data.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant reporting or analytical tools.
Advantageous Experience
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or similar continuous improvement qualification.
- Experience with process mapping, value-stream mapping and time studies.
- Knowledge of quality-management systems and ISO standards.
- Experience with ERP, manufacturing execution or business-intelligence systems.
- Exposure to automation, digital manufacturing or Industry 4.0 initiatives.
- Experience within automotive, engineering, FMCG or general manufacturing environments.
